Meet our hand made group! We decided to demonstrate to students how we can reduce our waste, and consumption by up-cycling household items - T-Shirts - into something that they can use! We up-cycled old T-shirts into drawstring bags. We also chose to demonstrate how to make and use natural dyes to customize their bags. In our practice we want to address the importance of the environment and how we can make a difference for a better future. Our objective is to create a project without further contributing to consumerism, waste and pollution. Students are learning chemistry through the process of making natural dyes. Also, to engage with students how our everyday choices can have a massive impact on our environment.

I feel extremely lucky to have been in this group! I feel that we all worked extremely hard to put this together and we ended up with a really meaningful project with lifelong lessons. Group projects don't always go this well, or at least in the experience that I've had. We came together as a group and each put a lot of effort into our responsibilities. This group project offered the collaboration and socialization that has been lacking due to the pandemic and online learning. Thank you everyone for your hard work, time and dedication to this project!

I used yellow onion skins for the t-shirt and then I had used hibiscus tea and dried flowers for the bag. This creates a reddish brown color, but it washed out. There are a few things I could do in the future to make sure the color lasts.
