Artist Statement
Who am I?
I am a multimedia, multidisciplinary artist inspired by nature, and the simple things in life. For around two years my work has consisted of multimedia projects such as, graphic design, illustrations, and ceramics. Mostly grounded in the subject matter of nature, personal experiences, and people.
I like to create simple designs based on what I see in nature, or when I get inspiration while going about my day. No matter the media, most of my art is done in a few steps - gathering sketches from inspiration, creating a graphic or illustration, and finishing with the muted color palette that I currently work in. With my art I’d like to put focus on these daily experiences that bring us joy. We get caught up in the hustle and stress of living that many times we don’t actually stop and enjoy what is right in front of us. Creating artwork inspired by objects that constantly get passed by brings me happiness. By creating these artworks I’m able to see life in a whole new light. Exploring the color palette of my surroundings, or even seeing these lines and shapes that create these images in front of me.
As an artist and future educator I think it is important to explore mediums and create relationships through the artwork into our own lives. Building relationships is important to collaboration and the creation of new ideas. Creating a space where inspiration and collaboration can flow freely is how I see my future studio, where artists and students can work together in whichever medium they would like to explore.
Currently I’m working on a few commissioned pieces and designing logos. I’m exploring more natural designs and incorporating the environment into these pieces. Whether it be illustrations, graphics, collages, or ceramics inspiration always comes from nature and my surroundings. I hope to encourage the “art” of taking it easy, and enjoying the simple things in life that surround us every day.
In the future, I would like to explore these concepts but in a more abstract fashion - rather than the representational work that I’m making today. I think my artistic process will constantly be shifting and changing as I develop interests for different mediums or subject matter. I feel inspired when I begin working with a new medium. The arts excite me because I know there won’t be a time where I get stuck in one type of work with no way out, there’s always something to explore. I think that is the beauty of art itself. As a future educator I hope that I can express my love for the arts in ways that get others excited, and eager to make new discoveries within their work, and themselves.
